
Frank MacKay started his full time career as a 16 year guitar teacher. Playing various styles such as jazz, flamenco, fusion in addition to rock, metal and punk. He recorded 10 records as either a player or producer by the time he was 20 years old.
He stopped playing regularly as a 18 year old to concentrate on the business end of music entertainment. He earned a living with as a combination of booking/promoting bands, producing music and publishing.
While still a teenager MacKay along with his brother Gordon started “Network” a New York area music and entertainment newspaper. The two siblings took the fledgling publication to a national audience through a complicated web of record distributors. Along the way “Network” featured exclusive interviews with the brightest stars of the time including Whitney Houston, Bob Jovi, Guns n Roses, KISS and Metallica.
Ever the multi-taskers The MacKay Bros were the first managers of then unknown magician/singer Criss Angel. Frank produced the demo utilized to land a development deal with Mercury/Polygram records for the eventual star entertainer.
Around this time Frank and business partner Bill Bogardt opened a string of Long Island rock clubs. The 3 clubs were randomly named Dr Shays and featured original talent of all genres from both national and local ranks. As the legendary Ramones we’re retiring MacKay and Bogardt took on the management role for CJ Ramone’s band Los Gusanos and landed them an American deal with the short lived Mayhem/Atlantic records.
Frank MacKay has been called a serial entrepreneur. His past business ownership include 2 restaurants to go along with the 3 clubs, Newspspers, magazines, publishing companies, 13 promotion companies and between record, licensing, book has successfully “shopped” and landed well over 100 deals.
In between his business and entertainment career, MacKay has put together a separate, impressive career that has found him elected to statewide political office for over 2 decades. As the New York State Independence Party Chairman. He has also been elected to 3 National leadership posts as well as an additional 11 times in his home County of Suffolk.
His television talk show “Turning Point” spent a year on NBC non-stop but ended when the outlet became Cozy TV. After that the show continued in a PBS format and also appeared on dozens of commercial outlets around the country. A radio show of the same name appeared in syndication in various markets including 5 major cities on CBS radio outlets.
MacKay is also the author of 8 books with more on the way.
A world traveler, Frank has visited over 50 countries, all 50 United States and 6 continents.
His current focus is his syndicated pop culture/celebrity interview show “Breaking It Down” with Frank MacKay. The popular radio program can now be heard on over 40 separate terrestrial and streaming sites.
MacKay has earned a Masters Degree from Stony Brook University and received an Honorary Doctorate from Five Towns Music College. He has also served on the boards of three colleges including a seat on Touro Law School’s Board Of Governor’s for 7. 1/2 years.
