Thousands enjoying 38th Sunfest after two-year hiatus

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. —

The 38th SunFest is in full swing in Downtown West Palm Beach, and the people making it all possible as well as the fans say they’re thrilled the four-day event is back.

The fans, vendors, volunteers and artists say the event is shining, even in the rain.

"I’ve missed it the last two years," said Chris Withers of Palm Beach Gardens. "I’ve been going for 10-plus years now, and it feels nice to be back hanging out with everybody."

Markis Hernandez has been playing at SunFest for four years and used to come to the festival as a fan before that. This year, he was happy to be back on stage in Downtown West Palm Beach with his new band, Public Sounds, which is a local act.

"I think it’s the inclusion of having a lot of local names and local bands playing and opening up and being a part of this, I think is huge, coupled with the national acts who come through, I think it’s just a nice synergy and it just shows how nice the talent is we have in this area,” Hernandez said. "That's the musical culture we have here in Palm Beach County."
