Former West Palm Beach Mayor Joel Daves has died at the age of 93.

He served as mayor for four terms from March of 1999 to March of 2003.

Current Mayor Keith James released a statement Tuesday, saying:

“My wife Lorna and I were saddened to learn of the passing of former Mayor Joel Daves and send sincere condolences to his wife Darden, his family, and all in the City of West Palm Beach who are bereaved. I last saw Joel and his family a few weeks ago, and we shared a few laughs. I am so glad I had that opportunity to see his smile one last time. Former Mayor Daves was a beloved friend to many, a dedicated public servant, and a longtime pillar of our community. At this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with his family and all whose lives he touched through his commitment to our city.”

Flags were lowered to half-staff at West Palm Beach City Hall Wednesday in Daves' honor until after his service.
