This Day in History: 110th anniversary of the Titanic sinking

One-hundred ten years ago, the Titanic struck an iceberg four days into the ship's maiden voyage — and more than 1,500 people lost their lives.

 

The 110th anniversary of the Titanic sinking is a special remembrance of those people who perished with the sinking ship.

The ship hit the iceberg around midnight on its journey from Southampton, England, to New York City.

Not only was the Titanic the most luxurious ship in the world at that time, but it was also one of the most technologically advanced. The massive ship took several thousand workers to construct, and two workers lost their lives during the build process. It had more than a dozen watertight compartments created to keep the ship floating if anything happened to it. This led many to believe the ship was unsinkable.
