Edwin and Erik Bustamante will receive their diplomas together Thursday morning
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. —
Thursday is a big day for many students at Indian River State College.
It’s the day they’ve been dreaming of — graduation.
Erik Bustamante is one of those students.
He’s receiving his associate degree in arts and marketing.
“It feels special,” he said. “Because the time has come. I’ve been in school for so long, and I’m finally getting my degree that I worked hard for.”
But Bustamante’s story is a little different, and not just because he’s graduating at the age of 17.
It’s who he’s graduating with.
His father will be walking with him and also collecting a diploma.
“I want to show them that if I can do well, why can they not be doing their best,” said Edwin Bustamante, Sr.
Edwin had a successful career until about ten years ago when two strokes changed his life forever.
Now at age 53, Edwin has turned that change into a college degree in horticulture and landscape technology.
