Mac Davis, Elvis songwriter and country star, dead at 78

Legendary country singer and songwriter Mac Davis has died at the age of 78.

Davis, who first found fame writing hits "A Little Less Conversation" and "In The Ghetto" for Elvis Presley, died following heart surgery, his manager, Jim Morey, said in a statement on Tuesday.

'Hocus Pocus' cast set for virtual reunion

The Sanderson sisters are about to reunite, but this time, no black flame candle is required.

 

Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy are set to conjure up a "Hocus Pocus" reunion for a good cause. The stars will take part in a virtual "Hulaween" gala that will benefit the New York Restoration Project. The organization, founded by Midler in 1995, plants trees, restores parks and transforms open spaces for communities across New York City’s five boroughs.

LOS ANGELES —

Helen Reddy, who shot to stardom in the 1970s with her rousing feminist anthem “I Am Woman” and recorded a string of other hits, has died. She was 78. Reddy’s children Traci and Jordan announced that the actor-singer died Tuesday in Los Angeles. “She was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother and a truly formidable woman,” they said in a statement. “Our hearts are broken. But we take comfort in the knowledge that her voice will live on forever.”

Multiple players on Tennessee Titans test positive for COVID-19, team closes facility

NASHVILLE, Tenn. —

Three players on the Tennessee Titans and five personnel members have tested positive for the coronavirus. The team, who played the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, has closed its facilities, the NFL said in a statement on Monday.

First-ever all-female crew makes history at Palm Beach Gardens Fire Rescue

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. —

Five female firefighters at Palm Beach Gardens Fire Rescue are making history. A couple days ago, the first ever all women’s crew was called to serve as a team.

“We’re breaking barriers,” said Krystyna Heiser Krakowski, Rescue Lieutenant at Palm Beach Gardens Fire Rescue. “It’s the first time we had in our department a female as a captain, a driver, a firefighter, rescue lieutenant, and a medic,” she added.

Palm Beach County's mask mandate extended

Officials in Palm Beach County have extended a county-wide mask mandate.

"Considering the most current data on COVID-19 spread in Palm Beach County, Southeast Florida, and the entire State of Florida, the CDC recommendations on wearing of facial coverings, and the safe reopening of additional businesses and public schools, the County Administrator has determined that it is necessary and appropriate to extend Emergency Order Number 2020-012 for an additional thirty days," read a statement from county officials.

 

The order will expire at 12:01 on October 22

Big Ten changes course, aims for October start to football

Big Ten is going to give fall football a shot after all. Less than five weeks after pushing football and other fall sports to spring in the name of player safety during the pandemic, the conference changed course Wednesday and said it plans to begin its season the Oct. 23-24 weekend. Each team will have an eight-game schedule.

Thousands sign petition for PBC to move to full Phase Two

As bars across the state have reopen, several business owners in Palm Beach County are upset and feel many businesses will have to close their doors if the county doesn’t reopen bars soon. As of Tuesday evening, this petition had 2,500 signatures asking Palm Beach County Commissioners to rethink the incremental phase two.

Diana Rigg, a British actress who became a 1960s style icon as secret agent Emma Peel in the TV series “The Avengers,” has died. She was 82. Rigg’s agent Simon Beresford said she died Thursday morning at home with her family.

Staff at beloved bowling alley excited for phase 2 reopening

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. —

Many businesses across Palm Beach County, including bowling alleys and movie theaters, are set to reopen on Tuesday for phase 2. Bowling alleys and movie theaters will have to be at 50% capacity. Bowling alleys will need to make sure 50% of total lanes are operational and there’s a four-player maximum per lane.

Palm Beach County School District sets September 21st as first day of in-person learning

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. —

Hours after Palm Beach County Mayor Dave Kerner said brick and mortar learning will resume at some point between September 14th and September 21st at Palm Beach County schools, the school district set September 21st as the return date.

CDC letter asks states to prepare to distribute COVID-19 vaccine by November

Fla. —

In a letter, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director instructed the Florida governor to take steps to be able to distribute COVID-19 vaccines by Nov. 1, but a local infectious disease physician, Dr. Kitonga Kiminyo, said he worries things may not be ready by that specific date. “We need to make sure that that vaccine has been tried and tested appropriately and through the appropriate channels,” Dr. Kiminyo said.

Once Phase Two begins in Palm Beach County, businesses like West Palm Beach Escape Rooms will once again be able to welcome customers while following guidelines from the county. “We are just excited to get back to start getting revenue people in here.
