Florida governor says schools will remain open in spring, virtual learning option remains

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said on Monday that schools in Florida will remain open this spring, but parents will continue to have options for virtual learning. DeSantis said the state will continue to provide funding to districts for virtual learning.

Sarah Fuller was playing around with a teammate a couple months ago when she kicked a soccer ball through the uprights from 45 yards away. She joked about being able to kick a football with teammates during the Southeastern Conference soccer tournament. On Saturday, she made history.

'He was a hero in our lives': David Prowse, the original Darth Vader, dies at 85

British actor David Prowse, who played Darth Vader in the original "Star Wars" trilogy, has died aged 85, his management company announced Sunday. Prowse died after a short illness, according to his agent Thomas Bowington. CNN reported in 2018 that Prowse was being treated for prostate cancer.

Brightline station coming to Disney Springs

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. —

Brightline announced Monday that they will be opening a station at Walt Disney World.

 

The station will be built at Disney Springs, the theme park's shopping, dining and entertainment district. According to a statement, the station is intended to provide a convenient travel option between Walt Disney World and other Brightline stations at Orlando International Airport, Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach.

Ann Turner Cook, the original, iconic Gerber Baby, turned 94 on Friday. According to Gerber, in 1928, the company held a contest to find a face to represent a baby food advertising campaign. Artist Dorothy Hope Smith entered her simple charcoal sketch of a baby, which the judges fell in love with and picked as the winner of the contest.

Miami Marlins hire Kim Ng as first female general manager in MLB history

Kim Ng became the highest-ranking woman in baseball operations in the major leagues when she was hired Friday as general manager of the Miami Marlins. Ng is believed to be the first female general manager for a men’s team in a major professional sports in North America, the Marlins said.

Disney World increasing capacity at Central Florida parks

On Wednesday, new models indicated that models are trending westward for Tropical Storm Eta, but South Florida remains in the cone of concern. As of Wednesday at 4 p.m., Tropical Storm Eta was about 100 miles north northeast of Managua, Nicaragua with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph, moving west at seven miles per hour.
